Three Darfur rebel groups said that they will unify their positions to start negotiating with the Sudanese government. Speaking to Miraya FM the official responsible for unifying the Darfur movements, Abul-gasim Ahmed Abul-gasim, said that the Justice and Equality Movement headed by Dr. Khalil Ibrahim, the SLM-unity faction, and the faction of Ahmed Abdel-shafi decided to form a unified team to participate in the meeting of Arusha, Tanzania. Abul-gasim said that the people of Darfur which have been affected by the war must be comprehensively compensated.
"The marginalized people from the remote areas have to participate effectively in the federal government so as to reduce the suffering of the citizens," said Abul-gasim, adding, "the war affected people must be comprehensively compensated". Meanwhile, the British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, said that he has agreed with the President of the United States, George Bush, to exert more pressure on the Sudanese government to stop the ongoing violence in Darfur. At a joint news conference with President Bush, Mr. Brown said that they have agreed for speeding up the UN resolution for the deployment of the joint UN/African Union Forces to Darfur. The United Nations Security Council meanwhile will discuss the British-French drafted resolution for the deployment of the UN/African Union Forces to Darfur before endorsement. The Sudanese government had earlier made reservations on some articles contained within the draft resolution.
