A batch of 24 traffic police officers have graduated in Wau town of Western Bahr el-Ghazal State, after a three-week intensive training on traffic control and movement aimed at reducing traffic accidents in the town. The Police Sector Coordinator of the United Nations Mission in Sudan, Caseyas Mupindu, said the training is part of the UN Police Mandate which requires that local police to be trained to reach the international standards. Mupindu added that the training will be followed by a Computer course at the UNMIS Office in Wau. The Police Director for Public Affairs in the State, Col. Chol Tut Chol said during the war the state was poorly manned by the police adding that the graduation of the first batch will help in traffic control in the town. The training which was organized by the Local Police in conjunction with the Police of the United Nations Mission in Sudan brought together 24 traffic police officers of different ranks of whom only two were women. Training for the second batch is scheduled to start later this month and Col. Chol said he expects to see more women on that batch.
