Eritrea said yesterday that it suspended its membership in the East African regional body after a rift with Ethiopia at a meeting on Somalia threatened to divide the region.Asmara’s withdrawal from the seven-member Inter-Governmental Authority on Development, also known as IGAD, is the latest sign of worsening relations between Eritrea and regional countries over Somalia.
A statement on the Eritrean government website, added that the move was made after "a number of repeated and irresponsible resolutions that undermine regional peace and security have been adopted in the guise of IGAD".
Eritrea also accused the American and Ethiopian policies of manipulating into the Horn of Africa.
