The World Health Organization (WHO) said that about 11,000 cases of meningitis with 649 deaths were reported from nine states of Southern Sudan. Of the Ten Southern States, Upper Nile State is the only which has not reported any case of Meningitis. The Organization also said about five thousand cases of cholera with one-hundred-and-twenty-seven death were reported from eight affected states in South Sudan. However, the two unaffected states are not mentioned. WHO also disclosed that they are planning to train surveyors for sanitary water supply to identify deficiencies that contribute to water contamination.
