Salva Kiir inaugurates Census data building in Rumbek PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 06 October 2008

President of Government of Southern Sudan General Salva Kiir Mayardit has today inaugurated the South Sudan Commission for Census, Statistics and Evaluation Data Processing and Inspection Building in capital of Lakes State Rumbek.

In his speech, the President said that the result of the 5th Population Census will be announced according to expectation of people of southern Sudan.

In his opening remarks the Chairperson for Southern Sudan Commission for Census, Statistics and Evaluation Mr. Isaiah Chol Aruai called the recent publication by newspapers in Khartoum of estimating the Census result as malicious and misleading.

Mr. Chol further said that the public should be patient and wait for the official release of the result by the government.

The President Salva will spend the night in Rumbek and will address issues concerning the Lakes State tomorrow.

The President was accompanied by a high level delegation which includes Ministers of Presidential Affairs, Interior, Legal Affairs and Constitutional Development, Regional and Iinternational Cooperation and members of Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly.

On the other hand, the reconstructed Juba Bridge has been opened on Monday during the ceremony that was attended by hundreds of citizens, senior government officials and representatives of non-governmental organizations.

The bridge sustained damage in 2006 caused by heavy trucks and lack of proper maintenance and since that time the traffic across the bridge was limited.

The President of the Government of South Sudan Salva Kiir said during the opening ceremony that the reconstructed 250 meters long bridge "will facilitate the flow of goods from neighboring countries and states within south Sudan."

President Kiir stressed that the government is committed to build more bridges across the Nile next year and is planning also to rehabilitate the railway-line to connect Wau and Babanusa that was destroyed during the war.
