The joint United Nations-African Union peacekeeping mission in Darfur (UNAMID) is stepping up its presence in and around Kalma IDP camp, South Darfur.
This came following an increased government police presence observed near Kalma camp, which increased fears of another possible attack on the camp in the near future.
Last week, thirty one displaced persons have been killed in Kalma camp during clashes with security forces.
The Rapporteur of the IDP committee Mohammed Saleh said the government continues to enforce its forces around the camp, in addition to inspect and arrest some IDPs.
For his part, South Darfur's Governor Ali Mahmoud denied those accusations confirming that the government had withdrawn its forces from the fourth day of the Kalma camp incident.
UNAMID reported yesterday that its police will be present at the Kalma camp in South Darfur State until a joint force of mission police and military officers can be permanently deployed. Daily military patrols by UNAMID have also been reinforced.
