President Omer Al-Bashir has said that the government will continue campaigns for disarmament in the camps for the displaced in Darfur.
Al-Bashir said in a meeting of the Council of Ministers yesterday that what happened in Kalma at the wake of confrontations between the police and citizens will not deter the government for maintaining control on the camps.
The United Nations African Mission in Darfur UNAMID reported that units of police and the hybrid forces patrol the camp to monitor and assess the situation.
The mission said in a press release that some of the displaced have taken the train station, heading towards Nyala.
The mission added that such a situation could lead to confrontations between the police and the citizens.
The international mediator for Darfur, Jibril Bassole called on the parties of the Darfur conflict to ceasefire in the region.
After officially assuming his duties in Al-Fashir, the capital of Northern Darfur State, Mr. Bassole said he will consult all the parties in Darfur for a peaceful resolution, expressing optimism in his efforts.
Commenting on the Kalma incidents, Bassole said he will make efforts to prevent such incidents, neither in Kalma nor in other camps.
In another development, the assistant to the president, Dr. Nafie Ali Nafie, stressed that the government will take new measures to deal with international organizations in Darfur, including the United Nations.
Speaking at a workshop on the work of international organizations in Darfur, Dr. Nafie said the government will spare efforts to facilitate the work of organizations.
