Cautious calm returns to Kalma camp in south Darfur following confrontations between Police and IDPs.
The Spokesman of the camp Hussein Abu Alsharati said that the Red Cross has a list of 60 people who are either dead or wounded, and that the police forces are still besieging the camp.
UNAMID earlier expressed concerns over confrontations in Kalma camp and called on the two parties to restrain.
The Spokesman of the Mission Nureddine Almazini told Miraya FM that, the mission is watching the situation closely, and calling for civilian protection, especially women and children.
Meanwhile, the government of South Darfur State assured that the causalities were not more than 12, while a hundred others were wounded.
The government said in a statement that the police responded to fire that came from inside the camp, when it was trying to enter the camp.
The government explained that police tried to enter the camp, fetching out what they called bandits and gangs and remnants rebels who might have taken refuge in the camp.
These events coincided with the arrival of the UN/AU Joint Mediator to resolve the Darfur problem Djibril Bassole, who stressed the importance of committing all conflicting parties to ceasefire.
