The United Nations African Mission in Darfur has said that its mandate differs from the one of the International Criminal Court.
Speaking to Miraya FM, the spokesperson of UNAMID, Nur el Din al Mazni, said the mission is continuing its tasks and that the government is closely collaborating with them.
He confirmed that they have not received any news about any expulsion from Darfur.
President Al Bashir had earlier told the al Arabiya TV Channel that he may ask the peacekeepers to leave Darfur should the ICC issue an arrest warrant against him.
The visiting Military Advisor to the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations in New York, LT. General Chikadibia Isaac Obiakor of Nigeria, has called upon troops deployed in Darfur to be part of the solution to the problem in that region.
Addressing troops stationed at Muhajeria, south Darfur, on the first day of his field assessment tour of Darfur, the Lt. General Obiakor emphasized the need for the troops to remain focused in their task, and to avoid acts which will contribute to suffering of the people in their areas of responsibility.
Lt General Obiakor is on a four day familiarization and assessment tour to Darfur. He is expected to brief the department of peacekeeping operations on his findings and, assessment of logistical and manpower needs of UNAMID upon his return to New York next week.
Until his recent appointment, he was the Force Commander of UN troops in Liberia.
