Vice President blames Popular Congress Party PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 10 August 2008

The Vice President of the Republic, Ali Osman Taha, accused the Popular Congress Party of escalating the Darfur crisis.

Mr. Taha denied that the National Congress Party will not persuade the Popular Congress Party.

Mr, Taha who has been appointed as the Secretary General of the Islamic Movement said that Dr. Turabi’s party will not be included in the Movement.

The leader of the Popular Congress Party, Dr. Hassan Abdullah Al-Turabi, earlier told Miraya FM that the call of President Al-Bashir for the Islamic Movements to unite is a mobilization of the religious emotions after his indictment by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Dr. Turabi said that unless the original Islamic approach is implemented the reunion will not be realized, adding that the Islamic Movement is no longer effective.

A leading member in the Islamic Movement, Dr. Abdel Wahab Al-Afandi, meanwhile said that the movement in Sudan will not affect the affairs of the Sudanese government.

Mr. Afandi said that the National Congress will be in full control of the Islamic Movement in Sudan.
