US Envoy wants Police forces in Abyei |

The American Envoy demands the deployment of Police forces in Abyei and the UN welcomes the appointment of the Abyei administration.

The African Union suspends the membership of Mauritania until a new government is formed. The US special Envoy to Sudan Richard Williamson demanded a speedy deployment of Police forces in Abyei to pave the way for the voluntary repatriation of the displaced people. Mr. Williamson has also welcomed the Abyei Road Map agreement reached earlier between the National Congress Party and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement. In Khartoum Mr. Williamson met the first vice President Silva Kiir Myardid after which he told the press that the appointment of the Temporary Administration of Abyei is an indicator that the final solution for the crisis in Abyei is coming soon.
The US Envoy is expected to visit Juba, Abyei and Darfur. For its part the UNMIS welcomed the appointment of the administration.
The special representative of the UN secretary General Ashraf Qazi said in a statement today that the mission is encouraging the two parties to proceed with the implementation of the rest of the articles of the Abyei Road Map in order to enable repatriation of the displaced.
Mr. Qazi affirmed that the UNMIS and the humanitarian organizations are ready to assist.
He farther called on the donors to donate for the rehabilitation of Abyei.
The president of the republic Omar Al-Bashir earlier issued a decree appointing Mr. Arob Moyak Mounj to be the president of the Abyei Administration and Rahama Abdul Al- Rahaman Nur to be the vice president.
The decree has assigned the newly appointed president and his vice to submit to the presidency a list of their nominations for the Executive bodies within two week after their swearing in.
The Executive committee of the National Congress Party and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement had reached an agreement on Friday over the formation of the Abyei Administration based on which the president taken the resolution.
