8 former ministers detained in Wau PDF Print E-mail

The Governor of Western Bahr el-Ghazal State, Lt. General Mark Nyipuoch Ubong has confirmed that eight former ministers of the State and politicians are under house arrest in Wau for trying to violently overthrow Government of the State.

The Governor told Miraya FM that on the 3rd of August over 40 people in a convoy of 8 trucks led by the former Commissioners of Raja and Jur River County, former Minister of Information and other politicians headed for Marial Bay where they held an illegal meeting. 
 
The Governor said the group was planning to expand the same campaign to Besselia and Bussere the following day. He added, alerted by this development, the Security Committee of the State chaired by him ordered an arrest and apprehended them.
 
Three of the arrested officials were temporarily detained at the JIUs army barracks while the other five were held at the Police Headquarters until a delegation sent by FVP Salva Kiir Mayardit turned their status to house arrest.
 
The delegation which came to investigate the case left Wau yesterday after series of meetings with local chiefs, witnesses, the Governor and the detainees.  
 
Lt. General Mark Nyipuoch Ubong said those under house arrest will be taken to court if the investigation reveals sufficient evidence against them.
