Anti Terrorist ruling not satisfactory, UNMIS says |

The United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) expressed concerns that the judicial process may not have met international standards.
A statement by the special representative of the UN secretary General Ashraf Qazi said that it appears that the accused were only given access to lawyers after the trials began.
The statement added that confessions were obtained while the accused were held incommunicado and in the absence of legal counsel and the court did not investigate allegations of ill treatment, as requested by defense counsel.
The statement added that, UNMIS is concerned that the judicial process under the Anti Terrorist Act only allows for a very limited appellate process.
