NCP & SPLM continue deliberations PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 05 August 2008

The Political Committee between NCP and SPLM resumed meetings today in Khartoum.

The two parties decided yesterday to form a joint committee to deal with the International Criminal Court over the probable arrest warrant of President Al-Bashir.

Miraya FM asked Luka Biong, GoSS Cabinet Minister, member of the Political Committee  about the outcome of yesterday’s meeting, he said " All these committees started their work now, and there are initial contacts between the two parties. Extensive meetings are ongoing between all committees today. The opening meeting stressed that the committees should not wait for fourteen days, because the Abyei committee must present a report and some decisions regarding the administration should be made. There is also the Darfur committee, which needs to present a report soon."

Luka Biong also said that the committee decided to form another one for the Central Bank.  He pointed out that an important meeting will be held some time today between President Al-Bashir and First Vice President Salva Kiir Mayardit to discuss many issues including Abyei. He explained "A sub- committee is also formed for the Central Bank of Sudan concerning the National Reserve in order to explain the confusion regarding the national reserve and the responsibilities of the bank and the Government of South Sudan. Work is progressing well, and we expect the Presidency and the ICC Crisis Committee to hold a meeting today."

Meanwhile, the High Executive Committee for the implementation of the Security Arrangements in Southern Kordofan and the Blue Nile States continued its meetings in Kawda to discuss the obstacles facing the security arrangements in both States.
