Diplomatic sources said that the UN Security Council reached a compromise in extending the mandate of the United Nations/African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID).
The Security Council is expected to discuss today the inclusion of the suspension of the indictment of President Al-Bashir in the resolution for extending the UNAMID’s mandate.
The sources said that the Security Council is expected to vote on the drafted resolution by Britain.
A bilateral meeting between the Vice President of the Republic, Ali Osman Taha, and the Arab League Secretary General Amru Muosa is meanwhile scheduled to take place today in Egypt.
The meeting between the two sides is to discuss ways to implement the agreement reached between the Arab League and the Sudanese government to counter a request made by International Criminal Court (ICC) Chief Prosecutor to arrest President Al-Bashir.
