JIUs accuse SAF of lootings in Abyei PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 23 July 2008
The Commander of the Joint Integrated Units (JIUs), Major General Thomas Cirilo, accused some elements in the Brigade 31 which is affiliated to the Sudan Armed Forces of looting civilian properties in the Abyei area.

However, the Sudan Armed Forces rejected such accusations.

The Director of SAF Spokesperson’s office, Al-Sawarmi Khalid Saad, said that these accusations are baseless.

He said that the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) withdrawal from Abyei is not yet assured.

Speaking to Miraya FM, Major General Thomas Ciliro earlier said that the existence of the Sudan Armed Forces in Abyei is causing inconvenience for the citizens in the area.

General Cirilo said that the JIUs will not commence their mandate unless the other forces in the area are withdrawn.
