President Omer Hassan Ahmed Al-Bashir said today in Al-Fashir town of Northern Darfur State that the request of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor General Louis Moreno-Ocampo to issue an arrest warrant against him aims at diverting the government’s efforts on development and finding peaceful solutions to the five year Darfur crises.
President Al-Bashir also assured that the government will return rights to Darfur war victims.
He said that the anti Sudanese powers are looking for a government that is affiliated to them. President Al-Bashir is expected to inaugurate many developmental projects in the three States in Darfur, and meet with political leaders during his visit.
The leader of the Sudan Liberation Movement -Abdul Wahid Mohamed Nur faction has meanwhile issued a statement rejecting the visit of President Al-Bashir to Darfur.
Speaking to Miraya FM the Spokesperson of the movement Yahia Boalad called on the Darfur citizens to boycott the visit.
However, media reports said that the Arab League announced on Tuesday the agreement of the Sudanese government to its initiative of handing those who were accused earlier of committing war crimes in Darfur to the Sudanese justice system. Miraya FM couldn’t confirm the news from official sources.
