The Security Council condemned an attack launched last week against the joint United Nations/African Union’s Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) which killed seven peacekeepers and injured twenty two others.
The Council demanded Khartoum to ensure bringing those responsible to justice, and to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
In a new development, one UNAMID soldier was shot dead in an attack against the mission’s convoy in Forobaranga area in Western Darfur.
UNAMID Public Relations Officer George Ola told Miraya FM that the mission started investigations into the incident.
On the other hand, Al-Arabia news channel reported that the Chief Persecutor of the International Criminal Court Louis-Moreno Ocampo intends to accuse some Darfurian military leaders suspected of being involved in attacks on Haskanita area and the recent attack which led to the killing of seven UNAMID peacekeepers in Darfur earlier this month.
Observers expected that the ICC list may include the Justice and Equality leader Khalil Ibrahim, in addition to field commanders Ali Karbino and Abu-Baker Kadu.
