JIUs battalion in Abyei ready, UN Coordinator says |

The UN Coordinator for Southern Sudan, David Gressly, confirmed that the Joint Integrated Units (JIUs) battalion is positioned in Abyei and is ready to take up responsibility of security in the area.
Speaking at a press conference in Juba, Mr. Gressly said that the JIUs, which completed their joint training, are waiting for the complete redeployment of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) and Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) out of the area before being deployed within the town.
Mr. Gressly added that the full redeployment of the SPLA and Sudan Armed Forces, and deployment of the JIU and the Joint Police Unit will be a significant step towards stabilizing and securing the situation in Abyei.
