Partners to the Naivasha sign convention on Abyei arbitration PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 08 July 2008
The partners to the Naivasha Peace Agreement, the National Congress Party and the SPLM signed yesterday the Arbitration Tribunal Agreement on Abyei. Dr. Luka Biong, Minister of Presidential Affairs in the Government of Southern Sudan told Miraya FM that the agreement restricts the role of the experts to a specific mandate.

The NCP member of the Joint Executive Political Committee Al Dirdiri Ahmed said the document will be deposited within a week to the Secretary General of The Hague International Court of Arbitration.

According to the roadmap for the implementation of Abyei roadmap agreement signed on June 8, the international arbitration court is designated to settle the NCP-SPLM dispute over the finding of the Abyei Boundaries Commission. The roadmap also calls for The Hague’s tribunal to decide whether or not the Abyei boundary commission exceeded its mandate in its 2005 ruling.
