The two partners to the Naivasha Agreement, the NCP and the SPLM, are expected to sign today the arbitration tribunal agreement on Abyei.
The agreement was finally approved in the Abyei Committee meetings which were held in Juba recently.
It is expected that Vice President of the Republic Ali Othman Taha and Vice President in the south Dr. Riek Machar will sign the agreement.
The Spokesman of the NCP in the Abyei Committee, Aldardiri Mohammed Ahmed, told Sudan Media Centre that the agreement will be referred to the Secretary General of the Permanent Court for Arbitration in the Hague in a one week’s time.
Meanwhile, the UNMIS welcomed the beginning of the SPLA and SAF withdrawal from Abyei.
Speaking to Miraya FM, the Deputy Spokesman of the mission, Kouider Zerrouk, said that this move facilitates the return of the IDPs to their homes.
He pointed out that the return will not start until the SPLA and the SAF are completely out of the area and until the Joint Integrated Units are finally deployed.
The Spokesman of the Joint Defense Board, Maj. Gen Bior Ajang, confirmed that the Sudan People's Liberation Army and the Sudan Armed Forces have already started to withdraw from Abyei.
Speaking to Miraya FM, he said that tens of soldiers of the Sudan Armed Forces have moved out of the area while the SPLA has withdrawn a force amounts to a brigade.
He pointed out that the deployment of the Joint Integrated Units in Abyei is going smoothly. on the other hand,The Spokesman of the Joint Defense Board, Maj.
