US encourages more UN sanctions on Zimbabwe PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 28 June 2008

Following the presidential election run-off in Zimbabwe, the United States is leading an effort to impose more UN sanctions on Zimbabwe.

But the UN Security Council in a statement on this regard did not say that the results of the Friday presidential election would be illegitimate.

Zimbabwean President, Robert Mugabe expressed confidence in winning the election in which he was the sole candidate.
The Opposition leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, withdrew from the election and said the results would only show the fear of the people. But he did not rule out the negotiation option with Robert Mugabi to find a way out of the current crisis.
