Zimbabwe has rejected a request by the Security Council to put off the runoff elections in the country scheduled for Friday.
Zimbabwean Ambassador to the United Nations said his country will continue with the elections. The United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, had earlier called for the postponement of the runoff elections due to continuing violence in the country. The Security Council blamed President Robert Mugabe for the deteriorating political and humanitarian situation in Zimbabwe.
