The Under-Secretary General for the Department of Field Support Susana Malcorra expressed her concerns about deteriorated humanitarian situation in Darfur.
Speaking to Miraya FM after meeting Sudanese officials she said the government has to facilitate the UNAMID job in Darfur.
The Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General and Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, Ameerah Haq, said that the humanitarian situation in Darfur warns of impending humanitarian disaster due to acute shortage of food, and deteriorating health conditions. She added in a press conference held yesterday at the headquarters of United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) that the food gap is expanding because of the repeated attacks on aid workers. Mrs. Haq called on the government to provide protection to food aid convoys and allow them into the area. She also called on the armed movements to stop hijacking cars and adhere to laws.
