The United Nations is celebrating international peacekeepers today.
The spokesman of the United Nations/African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), Nur Al-Din Al-Mazni, said that the body of one of the Mission's Police officer was found in Zamzam Internally Displace People Camps in Al-Fashir town of Northern Darfur State.
Speaking to Miraya FM Mr. Mazini said that the mission has commenced an investigation to identify the criminals.
The international peacekeepers day is meanwhile being celebrated in Khartoum, Juba, Malakal, Wau, and other parts of Sudan.
Addressing the occasion in Khartoum, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General to Sudan, Ashraf Qazi, expressed his sorrow over the deaths of peacekeepers in Darfur.
The UN specified the 29th of May as the celebrations of the peacekeepers.
In Juba, there was a low turn up at the international Peacekeepers Day celebrations. Addressing the gathering comprising mainly children and a few local people the Senior Civil Affairs Officer of the UN mission in Sudan, Diana de-Gusmer, said over two thousand and four hundred peacekeepers had died on duty world wide.
