SPLM urges UN to defend civilians in Abyei PDF Print E-mail

The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement SPLM urged the United Nations to intervene for the protection of civilians in Abyei, according to Chapter Seven of the its Mandate.   
The American Presidential envoy to Sudan Richard Williamson arrived in Khartoum Yesterday. Upon his arrival Mr. Williamson met the chairman of the National Umma Party Al-Sadiq Al-Mahadi.He is expected to hold a number of meetings with the political forces. 
 
The American Envoy will leave Khartoum to Juba tomorrow to meet the President of the Government of Southern Sudan Salva Kiir Mayardit. Speaking to Miraya FM, the Spokesperson of the American Embassy in Khartoum Joel Maybury said that Abyei unrests will top the agenda of the meeting between the US Envoy and the President of South Sudan…  
 
The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement has suspended participation in the talks between Sudan and the United States, due to commence in Khartoum, next week. The SPLM move came in protest against what it called the attacks of the Sudan Armed Forces on civilians in Abyei. 
 
The American Embassy did not comment on the Suspension of the participation of the in the Sudanese-American talks.
