The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement has suspended participation in the negotiations between Sudan and the United States, which are scheduled for the next week.
The SPLM decision came in protest against what it called the attack of the Sudan Armed Forces on civilians in Abyei. The SPLM confirmed that all its ministers will not attend the meeting with the American envoy to Sudan Richard Williamson scheduled next June.
Dr. Luka Biong, Minister of Presidential Affairs in southern Sudan, told Miraya FM about the impact of the decision on the SPLM-US relations.
The Joint Political Committee of the SPLM and the National Congress Party had earlier authorized in its meeting yesterday the special committee on Abyei to come up with solutions to the crisis within the next seventy-two hours.
The committee will report to the joint committee of the two parties chaired by the Vice Presidents of the Republic and the Government of Southern Sudan.
Speaking to Miraya FM, the Vice President of the Government of Southern Sudan, Dr. Riek Machar, said that the SPLM presented practical proposals to resolve the crisis in Abyei.
