Thousands of people demonstrated today in Juba protesting against the recent skirmishes in Abyei.
The First Vice President and President of the Government of Southern Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, earlier condemned the recent attacks carried out by the Sudan Armed Forces on the Abyei people.
Salva Kiir also promised to fight corruption in the south and north of Sudan.
The National Umma Party meanwhile proposed an initiative between the National
Congress Party and the SPLM on the Abyei crisis.
The Party said that it will mediate between the two partners of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement to resolve the Abyei issue.
The proposal made by the National Umma Party Sadiq Mahdi said that a neutral administration should be formed in Abyei.
The party also said that the joint Integrated Units (JIUs) should leave Abyei to the United Nations Mission in Sudan’s troops.
The National Umma Party added that the process of finding political solution to the Abyei issue should be frozen temporally until the demarcation of the south-north border is completed and until the period of referendum.
A leading member in the National Umma Party, Mohammed Sati, told Miraya FM that his party will talk with the SPLM to persuade them to accept such proposals.
