The First Vice President and President of the Government of Southern Sudan, Lt. General Salva Kiir Mayardit, accused the Sudan Armed Forces of using its military hardware against Sudanese civilians in Abyei and Darfur instead of protecting them.
Mr. Kiir was addressing the celebrations of the Silver Jubilee of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army on Wednesday in Juba.
He said if there was a law and order in Sudan, the Commander of Brigade 31 which is illegally deployed in Abyei would be brought to court for the recent atrocities committed against civilians in the area.
Mr. Kiir also said the SPLA was compelled by the Sudan Armed Forces into the fighting which killed the Deputy Commander of the Brigade 31.
On its part, the Sudanese Army accused the SPLA of attacking the camp of brigade 31 in Abyei killing 21 soldiers and wounding 54 others.
Meanwhile, UNICEF reported that about 200 children lost their parents during the conflict in Abyei.
