SPLM Second National Convention opens today |

The opening session of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) Second National Convention started today in Juba with the participation of one thousand and five hundred (1,500) delegates.
Representatives from the different Sudanese Political forces are attending the session. Prominent figures among the representatives are the Vice President of the Republic, Ali Osman Mohammad Taha, Minni Arko Minawi, the chairman of the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM), and Musa Mohammad Ahmed, the Chairman of the Eastern Sudan Front.
Also attending the opening session are representatives of the diplomatic missions as well as local and international reporters. While addressing the session, the Second Deputy Chairman of the SPLM, James Wani Igga, affirmed the commitment of the leadership of his movement to its principles.
The President of the Government of Southern Sudan and the Chairman of the SPLM, Salva Kiir Mayardit is addressing the session now. This is the second convention of the SPLM.
The first convention was held in the year 1994, and the movement has been significantly transformed in the period between the two conventions.
