Sudan's parliament forms committee to investigate Omdurman events PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 14 May 2008

The interim national assembly has formed a committee to investigate on the recent events in Omdurman.

The committee is comprised of a number of experts. During a meeting held specially for listening to statements from the ministers of defense and the interior on the events, some of the members demanded for questioning the inconvenient government and security officials during the events.

Meanwhile, the minister of defense first Lt. General Abdu Al-Rahim Mohammad Husain revealed that the Justice and Equality movement have used 309 Toyota Landcurser vehicles during their attacks on Omdurman. While addressing the assembly, the minister added that the plan of the justice and equality was to take over the Radio, the Television, the bridges and the presidential palace.

And concerning the casualties the defense minister said that six officers and 93 soldiers have been killed from the armed forces, while the police forces lost 23 policemen.

In a related context, the leading member in the Sudan Liberation movement SLM “the public leadership faction” Sulaiman Jamus said that his movement is expressing its deep sorrow for the latest Omdurman events, but meanwhile, he urged government to resolve the Darfur crisis.

While speaking to Miraya FM he said that Omdurman attacks might again be carried out by any of the Darfur movements if the government continue to be reluctant about resolving the crises in the region.

Adding that now all the possibilities seem to be opened for reaching a solution for the Darfur crisis.
