Chad closes border with Sudan PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 13 May 2008
The Chadian government announced the closure of its eastern border with Sudan after Khartoum severed its diplomatic relations with the country.

Sudan
accused Chad of supporting the recent attack launched by JEM rebels on the capital.   A released statement issued by the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers said that the government decided to close the border to prevent any infiltration or suspicious movements.

The government also prevented Sudan Airways from operating flights to
Chad and froze the assets of the Sudanese Agricultural Bank.

Earlier, N'Djamena expressed its surprise at
Sudan’s decision of cutting diplomatic relations with it, describing it as "hasty decision," and said it hoped that the relations would return to normal between the two countries.
