The US Embassy in Khartoum condemned what it said actions of conflicts in Darfur obstructing the Census exercise in the region.
The Embassy said that these actions were enacted by the Darfur armed factions.
The Embassy expressed concerns over the Census exercise not to take place in some parts of Darfur and Southern Kordofan.
Speaking to Miraya FM, the spokesperson of the US Embassy in Khartoum, Brown Weltered, praised the efforts taken by the Sudanese government for the Census process to take place.
The governor of the Western Darfur State, Al-Haj Abu Al-Gasm Imam, said that the Census exercise did not cover many parts of the State including the displaced camps.
Mr. Imam told Miraya FM that what happened is a normal issue due to the insecurity in the State.
He emphasized that a solution should be found for the areas which the enumeration did not take place.
The governor of the Lakes State, Daniel Awet Akot, meanwhile called for a one-week extension of the 5th Sudan Population and Housing Census in his State.
Mr. Akot said the extension was necessary to make up for the three counties in the Lakes state, which were not counted properly.
Speaking to the press, Mr. Akot said, “The percentage of the census success in the State was 70% in eight counties”.
Mr. Akot said that census exercise was delayed in some counties because of the absence of mapping, transport and other challenges.
He said that the most affected counties are the North and Central Rumbek Counties and the town itself.
The Central Statistic Bureau earlier said that there is no extension for the Census exercise which started on the 22nd of last month.
