The Darfur Armed Movements rejected accusations made by the Minister of the Interior that they are getting funds from drug traffickers in the region.
The Interior Minister said that the situation has caused an expansion in drug cropped areas, and an increase in drug trade and insecurity.
Speaking to Miraya FM, a leading member in the Justice and Equality Movement, Dr. Abdul Hameed Haroun, said that this accusation came at a time when the government failed to address the armed movements in all ways and inability to solve the problem in the region.
The Minister of Interior earlier said that the proliferation of arms in Darfur and the lack of commitment of food trucks and petroleum products to drive in organized convoys are common threats to the security in Darfur.
The Minister described the situation in Darfur as better than what it used to be like in the last two years. The Director General of the police force Lt. Gen. Mohamed Najib Al- Tayeb, said that the police had provided three thousand forces to secure the movement of trucks to transport 45 thousand tons of food stuff belonging to the World Food Program.
