UNSC extends UNMIS mandate in Sudan |

The UN Security Council voted to extend the mandate of the UN Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) till April the 30th 2009.
In a resolution passed unanimously, the Council emphasized the importance of “full and [speedy]” implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement monitored by the UNMIS.
The resolution also “[called] for all parties to immediately accept full unrestricted UNMIS monitoring and verification in the Abyei region, without prejudice to the final agreement on the actual borders between the two sides.” It advised the parties to “address and find a mutually agreeable solution to the Abyei issue.
The Security Council urged the parties of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement to redeploy their forces away from the disputed border of 1.1.1956.
