Thirty five out of one hundred and thirty three observers of the census process in the southern states have returned to Khartoum after being expelled by the GoSS.
Speaking to Sudan News Agency, an official source in the Teachers’ Union denounced the arrests and seizure of belongings of a number of the census observers in the south for four days.
The source said such practices are contrary to the CPA, the constitution and the freedom of mobility in all Sudan. Authorities in Central Equatoria State confirmed that the security situation in the state during the ongoing census exercise has remained calm and stable.
This was said during the Population and Housing Census briefing on Tuesday in Juba. Meanwhile, the State Directorate for Census pointed out a sixty percent (60%) accomplishment of the population Census exercise so far.
