Vice President of the Government of Southern Sudan, Dr. Riek Machar, said that each state in southern Sudan will send sixty eight (68) delegates to the SPLM convention scheduled for May.
Speaking to Miraya FM, Dr. Machar who is also the Deputy Chairman of the SPLM said that in the next four days, the SPLM conventions currently taking place in the south will form a State Liberation Council for each of the ten southern Sudan States.
Dr. Machar who is currently attending the SPLM convention in the Unity State said that executive committees will also be formed in each state of the south. He said that there is no SPLM Convention currently taking place in northern Sudan. But he pointed out that delegates from the north are ready to join the SPLM National Convention.
Meanwhile, the election of the representatives in the SPLM convention has started in all the ten States of southern Sudan.
The supervisor of the elections in Western Equatoria State, Dr. Samson Kwaje, confirmed that the congress in Yambio will elect the state representatives.
He added that the congress is going to decide on the formation of the SPLM State Secretariat, and to elect 51 members for the State Liberation Council. But he said that the election supervisors are facing some challenges.
Meanwhile, the Central Equatoria State postponed the SPLM Convention in the State to a later date, because most of the members are busy with the ongoing population census.
However, the SPLM Convention in Upper Nile State started on Tuesday. More than 1000 delegates from 12 counties in the State are participating in the convention which is expected to last for three days.
In his opening statement, member of the SPLM Interim National Council, Justice Ambruse Entick, asked the members to work together.
