The fifth population and housing census is continuing smoothly in most of the Sudanese states for the second day.
However, a number of demonstrators in Kalma, Abo Shok and Zamzam camps in Darfur staged protests against the census.Speaking to Miraya FM Hussein Ishaq Sajo, one of the chiefs of Abo Shok camp in north Darfur, affirmed that huge numbers of displaced people took part in those protests.
Meanwhile, the Enumerators in Juba, the capital of South Sudan, started the census process on Tuesday from the house of the president of the Government of Southern Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit who was the first to be counted.Later, they counted others like students at the Juba University, top government officials and people living in the big hotels in the town.
The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) in the Southern Kordofan State denied that it backed down from its decision of not taking part in the fifth population census.
Earlier, a released statement from the SPLM in the Southern Kordofan State attributed its decision of not taking part in the census to a number of reasons topped with the insecure situation in the state.
In addition to that, the statement mentioned that the SPLM is inappropriately represented in the concerned institutes; the borders are still not demarked, in addition to a lack of English language Census questionnaires, and the non-reactivation of the IDP voluntary return.
Meanwhile, the governor of the Northern Darfur state, Othman Mohammed Yousif Kibir, said that the census exercise in his state excludes the areas under the control of the armed movements that did not sign the Abuja peace agreement.
