E-mail Print

redcrescent_sudanAfter being held for three months, Laurent Maurice, a French employee of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) was released on Saturday. ICRC spokesperson in Sudan, Salih Al Dabaka, told Miraya FM that regardless of the release, the ICRC will not lift partial suspension of activities in Darfur until another abducted ICRC employee, taken hostage in Darfur, is released.

37 year old Laurent Maurice was abducted in Chad on November 2009.  Another ICRC employee, Gauthier Lefèvre, was taken hostage in Darfur, Sudan in 2009 and has not been released.

Dabaka denied any ransom was paid for the release.

An organization called the Eagles of Africa has claimed responsibility for the abductions.
