South Sudan pledges to launch cancer program

cancerAs the world marks cancer day on Thursday 4th February under the theme "Cancer Can Be Prevented Too”, the Southern Sudan Ministry of Health has pledged to have a cancer program in the region. Speaking to Miraya FM the Acting Director General for Preventive Medicine in the Ministry, Dr. Pinyi Nyimol said that hospitals in southern Sudan lack the necessary cancer screening and diagnosis centers. Dr. Nyimol emphasized the need to have advanced laboratory and treatment plans for the disease.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), cancer is a leading cause of death around the world. WHO estimates that 84 million people will die of cancer between 2005 and 2015 without intervention.
