The Chairman of Southern Sudan High Election Committee, Caesar Arkangelo, has said lack of funding is an obstacle to the election committees in the south. He told Miraya FM that the electoral committees in all the ten southern states did not complete their administrative structures due to funding problems.

Southern Sudan Peace Commission calls for heavy hands on violence

The Chairman of the Southern Sudan Peace Commission, Louis Lobong, has urged the southern government to enforce law and order to curb the recent wave of ethnic violence in the region. He told Miraya FM that the government should ensure a prompt investigation of incidents of violence and bring perpetrators to justice.

Rwandan former intelligence chief arrested in Uganda

Idelphonse Nizeyimana, the former Rwandan intelligence chief, has been arrested in Uganda. Nizeyimana has been indicted on charges of genocide and crimes against humanity in his country. He was detained on his way to Kenya by Ugandan authorities with false identity documents. Nizeyimana is accused of organizing the killing of thousands of ethnic Tutsis, including the revered former Queen, Rosaille Gicanda, widow of King Mutara III.

NCP describes Juba Conference as “maneuver against NCP”

Speaking to Miraya FM upon arrival from Khartoum after participating in NCP's 3rd general convention, leader of the National Congress Party (NCP) for Southern Sector, Agnes Poni Lukudu, described the recent Political Parties conference held in Juba as "a maneuver against the NCP." Poni assured her party's readiness for the upcoming general elections confirming that it will take place as scheduled. She added that the NCP will work for the unity of southern Sudan.
Interior Ministry: Sudanese electronic passports accepted in Europe

The Federal Ministry of Interior has denied media reports claiming that the European Union does not recognize the Sudanese electronic passport. The Ministry said that a number of electronic passports issued to Sudanese citizens have been accepted by some countries in Europe. Meanwhile, the European Union Commission in Sudan denied any knowledge of such matter.
Food air-drops begin in Jonglei and Sobat

The Southern Sudan Humanitarian Aid Commission said that it is leading a collaborated effort with the World Food Programme WFP to distribute aid to affected areas in the south. The Commission said the air dropping of food aid started in Jonglei and Sobat since the beginning of this month.

International conference in Moscow discusses Darfur crisis

The Russian Special Envoy to Sudan, Mikhail Margelov, said that an international conference on Sudan has started today in Moscow to discuss the Darfur crisis among other issues. The conference is attended by representatives of the Arab League, UNMIS, European Union, China, African Union and United States.
Popular Congress and Umma opposition parties downplay Bashir’s call for dialogue

The opposition Umma National Party has expressed reservations on President Omer Al Bashir's call for dialogue with political parties. Meriam Al Sadiq Al Mahdi, a leading member in the Umma National Party, told Miraya FM that the National Congress Party, led by President Bashir, tends to exclude other political forces from engaging in real dialogue.

Misseriya conference rejects Hague ruling on Abyei

The Misseriya tribe conference, held on Monday, has rejected the ruling of the Permanent Court of Arbitration on Abyei border demarcation. Saeed Hamid, Misseriya conference Chairman, told Miraya FM that Missriya leaders have unified their stances on the issue during the event adding that they have options to counter the ruling.
Nine new deaths reported at Jonglei/Central Equatoria border

Nine people, including women, were killed in tribal clashes between the Mundari and the Dinka Bor tribes on the borders of Jonglei and Central Equatoria States. Speaking to Miraya FM, the Commissioner of Terekeka County of Central Equatoria State, Juma Ali Malou, said the clashes displaced more than 4,000 people.
